Gallery is pleased to be representing art from the estate of M. Barbara
Ward. She taught art for many years in the Blacklick Valley School System
in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Marywood College in Scranton,
PA. She earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University, New York,
NY.
She
loved painting outdoors, mostly with watercolor. She rarely prepared
a sketch. Her images depict streams, farms and factories in and around
Johnstown, PA. where she lived most of her life. Babs, as her family
knew her, explored the translucency, freedom and spontaneity inherent
to watercolor.
She
admired the work of Charles Burchfield and August F. Biehle, Jr.of Cleveland.
Their influences are reflected in her expressionistic style.
Babs
was a very private person, spending her time going on "painting jaunts"
or"messing around" in her studio.
